Egyptian Parallels
to
Revelation's seven "letters"

The second chapter of Revelation begins with words of instruction to the author:

"To the angel of the church in Ephesus, write:"

Revelation then records seven different "letters",
one to each of seven different "churches".

These seven letters were dictated to the author and recorded in Chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation. Six contain parallels to elements found in a group of chapters in the Book of the Dead (Chapters 108-110,112-115) while one (addressed to "the angel of the church in Thyati'ra" and recorded in Rev. 2:18-28) has parallel elements found in the 5th Division of the Book of Caverns.

The following is a partial list textual elements found in the seven letters which have parallels in the Egyptian sources.

I know ... (Rev. 2:2,9,13,19; Rev. 3:1,8,15)
I know your dwelling place (Rev. 2:13)

Highlights

1. A significant number of elements of the letter to the church in Philadelphia (Rev. 3:7-12) follow a sequence which is very similar to that of parallel elements in Chapter 115 of the Book of the Dead.

2. A significant number of elements in the letter to the church in Thyatira (Rev. 2: 18-28) form a contiguous grouping of parallel elements in 5th Division of the Book of Caverns.
